Sheriff Mark Schrader and Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton Donate Blood at recent blood drive

 

Earlier this week the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office conducted a Blood Assurance Blood Drive at the Sheriff’s Office on West Washington Street in Summerville.

Sheriff Mark Schrader told AM 1180 that the blood drive was successful with over thirty people showing up to donate blood.  Of the thirty people that showed up about twenty-four were able to donate.

The sheriff said that he plans to conduct another blood drive later this summer with Blood Assurance.

Blood Assurance is a non-profit, full-service regional blood center serving 51 counties and more than 76 health care facilities in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina and Virginia.

Founded in 1972 as a joint effort of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Medical Society, the Chattanooga Area Hospital Council, and the Chattanooga Jaycees, the mission of Blood Assurance is to provide a safe and adequate supply of blood and blood components in a cost effective manner to every area patient in need.

Currently, there are 16 locations and 13 bloodmobiles to collect life-saving blood products, used by area patients. Blood Assurance is a member of the American Association of Blood Banks, the Tennessee Association of Blood Banks, the Tennessee Hospital Association, Blood Centers of America, the Georgia Department of Community Health, Tennessee Department of Health, and the Chattanooga Area Hospital Council.
