A Forsyth County Sheriff’s Deputy was wounded during the investigation of a domestic disturbance at an Akins Way residence yesterday.
Upon arrival, deputies were attempting to get the subject to come outside to speak with them when they came under significant gunfire from the residence. Deputies returned the gunfire, yet after attempted negotiations, the suspect took his own life.
During the exchange of gunfire, a male sheriff’s deputy suffered gunshot wounds to his legs and was transferred to a local hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries. He is now home with his family recovering, and no additional deputies or persons were injured.
The GBI attended the scene and commandeered the forensic investigation at the request of Sheriff Freeman. In addition, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team was deployed with the assistance of Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office S.W.A.T. team, members of the North Fulton S.W.A.T. team, Georgia State Patrol officers and aviation, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.
