An Alabama man is in jail after a healthcare worker found his elderly mother in the floor of a residence in Fort Payne earlier this week.
Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynam said yesterday that a call came into the Fort Payne Police Department requesting officers to respond to the residence. Fire Medics were already on scene when officers arrived, he said.
Chief Bynam said that officers made contact with a seventy-eight-year-old elderly female who was laying in the floor, she was the mother of Michael Dimitri Mullins also of the residence. Also on scene was a health care worker who was assigned to check on the elderly female. The healthcare worker and officers believe that the elderly woman had been in the floor for a long period of time.
Police arrested fifty-four-year-old Michael Dimitri Mullins for elderly abuse and neglect and obstruction of law enforcement. Police say that Mullins stated that he did not want police or medics at his residence.
He is currently incarcerated on a $55,000 bond.
