Roads are Beginning to Get Hazardous – UPDATED

East Washington St. near the Depot 

Some city streets and county roads are beginning to get slick from the snow.  Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader told AM 1180 around 8:45 PM that there are slick spots developing in some areas.  Right now, Highway 27 and Taylor’s Ridge are passable.  The sheriff is urging extreme caution if you must be out this evening.  Both local school systems have canceled school for tomorrow due to the road conditions.

UPDATE 9:19 PM – The Cherokee County, Alabama county engineer has issued a Travel Advisory for all Cherokee County roads.  Travel is not recommended on any roads in Cherokee County, Alabama.

WRGA in Rome is reporting that roads are getting slick in Floyd County, especially in the Silver Creek and Texas Valley areas.

Both Trion City Schools and Chattooga County Schools have canceled school for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 17, 2018.  Superintendents Williams and Lenderman both cited poor travel conditions due to slick roads as the reason for the cancellation.

Trion Mayor Larry Stansell wants to see the Town of Trion have their own “Economic Development” authority.

Chattooga County Schools Closed Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia that is in effect from 10 AM Tuesday until 7 AM Wednesday morning. Due to this weather prediction the Chattooga County Schools will be closed Tuesday, January 16.

Mr. Charles E. “Buddy” Hammonds, age 83, of Trion, GA, passed away peacefully Friday January 12, 2018, in Floyd Medical Center after injuries sustained in an automobile on January 9, 2018.

House Fire at Cloudland

Firefighters were called to a house fire at Cloudland on Friday afternoon.  The house was located at 237 Gilreath Mill Road.  There were no injuries reported as a result of the fire, and it was not clear if anyone was at home at the time.  We will have more information as it becomes available.
