The Chattooga Shrine Club held their 35th Annual Chattooga Shrine Telethon this past weekend at the Tooga Theater in downtown Summerville. Once again this year, Chattooga County residents opened their hearts and their wallets for the worthy cause.
The Chattooga Shrine Telethon began in 1982 and has been broadcast every year since. For the past 10 years, AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio has simulcasted the Chatooga Shrine Telethon.
Chattooga Shriner Pete Denson told AM 1180 that Chattooga residents pledged over $51,000 during this year’s telethon, of which over $48,000 is already in the bank.
All of the money raised during the telethon goes to Shrine Hospitals for children. Shriners Hospitals are a network of 22 non-profit medical facilities across North America.
Children with orthopedic conditions, burns, spinal cord injuries, and cleft lip and palate are eligible for care and receive all services in a family-centered environment, regardless of the patients’ ability to pay.
