Last year’s Champions the DFCS Stingers pictured with the BEE trophy.

The Chattooga County Literacy Council will be holding its annual Spelling Bee, Tuesday, March 19, 7:00 pm at the Summerville Boys and Girls Club.  This year we will have an added bonus of a Barbecue Basket raffle.

The basket is filled with barbecue goodies including:  A $25 gift card from Tractor Supply (for anything extra you might need), a $25 gift card from Save-a-Lot (for all the fixings), The Barbecue Bible (for the recipes), a Tailgate Grill/Cooler Combo, a Char-Broil comfort-grip 3 piece tool set, table cloth, oven mitts, napkins, sauces, rubs and more.  Tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5, and can be purchased at the Bee or by calling Rose Kohler at 678-640-2050.

There are six teams listed for competition this year as the returning champs, the DFCS Stingers return to defend their championship.  The other five teams are from Horizon Baptist Fellowship, Floyd Urgent/Primary Care, Mount Vernon Mills, Chattooga High School and Trion High School.  Please come out and cheer these teams on as they compete to hold the coveted “BEE” trophy for the year.  This is the largest fundraiser for the literacy council and proceeds go towards the 3rd Grade Dictionary Project, The Bookshelf Project, GED Scholarships, the GED Graduation Celebration, Media Specialist Appreciation Day, National Adult Literacy Week and many other projects hosted by the literacy council.  The BEE is open to the public.
