President George H.W. Bush and First Lady Barbara Bush were both life-long country music fans, and they made no bones about their affinity for country music and country music stars. President and Mrs. Bush made multiple trips to Nashville, attended the Grand Ole Opry and often invited country stars to the White House and to their homes in Maine and Texas.
The Bush’s were especially close with Country Music Hall of Fame Members The Oak Ridge Boys. The Oak Ridge Boys were first invited by then Vice-President Bush to perform in Washington D.C. in 1983. Over the years The Oak Ridge Boys sang multiple times for the President and First Lady, including a private rendition of “Happy Birthday” at the Bush’s Texas home in 2012.
Duane Allen with the Oak Ridge Boys said on his personal Facebook Page that he was at a prayer meeting when he heard about the passing of Mrs. Bush. Duane and the other members of the Oak Ridge Boys are sending out their heartfelt prayers for President George H.W. Bush and the rest of the Bush family.
