On Friday, Georgia Governor Brian Kemp signed his first bill into law.  The new law deals with school bus safety and was rushed through the General Assembly.  The law became effective immediately.

The bill came in response to a law that was passed last year that allowed drivers to pass a stopped school bus that was loading or unloading children with only a painted turn lane between them and the bus.  The new law says that you cannot pass a school bus that is loading or unloading children unless there is a grass median, an unpaved area or a physical barrier between your lane and the oncoming bus.

Unlike some laws that don’t go into effect until a later date, this law became effective immediately.
