The Chattooga County Historical Society will hold their fall meeting this coming Sunday, October 14th at the historic Bethel Presbyterian Church in Gore. The meeting will feature a picnic on the grounds of the church.
Everyone is encouraged to come and bring their favorite side-dish. The Historical Society will provide fried chicken and ham. The Historical Society will also provide hand-washing stations and portable bathrooms on the grounds of the church that was built in the mid -1840’s.
The church was quite recently featured in the GPB documentary series “Saving Grace” that is available on the Georgia Public Broadcasting website. While the cemetery is in remarkably good shape, efforts among the families of descendants are underway to restore broken stones and the rock wall that surrounds the 180-year-old graveyard.
Dan Roper, a respected Georgia historian, will be the featured speaker. Roper has done a great deal of research on Bethel and the surrounding area, and is a popular speaker throughout the southeast.
The public is invited to attend all meetings of the Chattooga County Historical Society
