On Tuesday, a county deputy responded to a report of identity theft.
Speaking over the phone with a woman named Carole Spring, he learned that Spring had discovered a cell phone account in the name of her father, who has been deceased for almost a year.
Spring said she controls her father’s estate and all his accounts have been closed. She gave the deputy the number of the phone and said that the address on the account was a Conyers Georgia address where her father had previously lived.
Spring said she suspected her sister may be the perpetrator of the fraud, as she had s history of such behavior, and she was worried that there were more accounts in his name opened by her.
The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office reportedly is cooperating with the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
