The Chattanooga Times – Free Press reported today that a Hays State Prison guard was arrested on charges of trying to sell prescription drugs.

Investigators received a tip last week that a drug deal was going to take place in a parking lot on Highway 27 just south of Trion.  As the investigators arrived on the scene they saw a white SUV drive up and park and a woman got into the vehicle.

The investigators approached the vehicle and found Hays State Prison Lieutenant Roger Doyle Frizzell inside with the woman.  Investigators say that they found 10 hydrocodone pills wrapped up in a cigarette paper.  After stopping the drug sale, Frizzell was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on drug distribution charges.

Investigators say that they have been following leads about Frizzell and suspected drug activity, but the arrest last week was in response to the tip that they received and they had no idea that they would be arresting Frizell at the time.

Frizell has been suspended without pay by the Georgia Department of Corrections.
