JC Penney announced earlier this month that they would be closing 138 stores nationwide later this year.

Yesterday the one-hundred-fifteen-year-old company announced the list of stores that will be closed.  The JC Penney store in Rome at Mt. Berry Mall was not on the list.   The JC Penney Store at Hamilton Place Mall in Chattanooga will also remain open.

In Alabama, the JC Penney store at the Gadsden Mall is on the list for closure.

JC Penney says that the closures are part of a continuing effort to advance sustainable growth and long-term profitability.  In addition to the 138 retail stores closing, they will be closing or moving two supply chain facilities.

Approximately 5,000 jobs nation-wide will be impacted by the closures.

The liquidation process at the closing stores will begin on April 17, 2017.
