An Aragon man, identified as 36 year-old Jason Dennis Watkins, was shot and killed late Friday by a Georgia State Patrol trooper. Reports stated that Watkins led the trooper on a chase on Collard Valley Road before the deadly ending.

When the vehicle came to a stop reports said that Troopers got out of their cars in an attempt to prevent Watkins from driving any further.

However, authorities stated that Watkins attempted to back up and at that point the trooper opened fire. Watkins body will be transported to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for autopsy.

Officials said that Watkins was shot several times, and troopers immediately began lifesaving measures until ambulance crews arrived and transported him to Polk Medical Center’s emergency room.
