A large crowd turned out in Lafayette at the Walker County Board of Education meeting on Monday evening to protest the termination of Lafayette High School’s Principal, Mike Culberson; but the school board says he has not been fired.

The Walker County Board of Education denies that any personnel changes have taken place, saying in a brief press release Monday afternoon “There have been no personnel changes in the administration of Lafayette High School. Mike Culberson is still the principal; however, he is not on campus today for personal reasons.”

On Friday, Chattanooga news outlets reported that the Walker County Association of Educators had said that Culberson was fired on Friday.  Other reports said that Culberson had been “asked to resign.”

The Walker County Board of Education maintains that Culberson is still principal at Lafayette High School.

UPDATE:  Information from the Walker County Board of Education says that while Culberson is still the principal at Lafayette High School, his contract was not renewed by the Walker County Board of Education.
