A twenty-year-old Chattooga County man was reported missing on the Chattooga River on Monday evening.

A call came in to Chattooga 9-1-1 around 10 PM on Monday night about the missing boater. Area law enforcement and fire fighters began a search for the missing man.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that the missing man was found by the Summerville Fire Department about an hour after the call came in to 9-1-1.  He was located around Woodhaven Drive off the river.

Sheriff Schrader said that the man claimed that he had hurt his ankle and told the other five or six boaters in his group to go on without him and he would catch up later.  The man said that he fallen asleep in his boat around 7 PM.

The sheriff said that the other boaters in the group left the river and did not report the man missing until later Monday evening.
