Johnny Lee Crider, “Big John,” 64, passed away July, 23rd 2017 at Kindred Hospital in Rome, GA surrounded by his son, daughter-in-law, brother, and sister-in-law.

Johnny was born on May 11th 1953 in Trion, GA. He was raised on Elm Street in Trion by his two amazing parents Earl and Ruby Crider. He attended Trion High School where he enjoyed playing football for the Bulldogs. Shortly after high school, Johnny joined the Navy and traveled the world on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt. After the Navy he settled back in Trion and married Elizabeth Bentley Hubler, the mother of his only child, Colin. Johnny recently retired in February of 2017 from his job as supervisor of Denim and Dye at Mount Vernon Mills, where he worked for over 42 years. In his spare time, he enjoyed being an active Mason and Shriner, playing cards and computer games, listening to his son play guitar, spending time with family, and frying turkeys around the holidays.

His son paid this tribute to him:
The world is full of ordinary men, but occasionally you will encounter a man that sets the standard for what all men should strive to be. Men like this come from a different time. A time when handshakes meant something, your word was as good as gold, and real men protected and cared their family at any cost.
My Dad was one of those men. Words cannot begin to describe his influence on me or those that he was close to. He set the bar high for the rest of us, leading by example. He passed away at 6:30PM Sunday evening July 23rd, surrounded by those closest to him. There is a huge empty space that I will do my best to fill with all my favorite memories with him. He will be missed greatly.

He is survived by his Son Colin Crider, Brother Lynn Crider, Sister Charlene Giles, Sister-in-Law Kim Suits, Daughter-in-Law Sara Crider, Wife Jane Crider and numerous Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He is preceded in Death by his parents Earl and Ruby Crider, Brother Kenneth Crider, Brother Leon Crider, Sister Earlene Craig, and Brother Billy Croy.

A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held at Coffman Funeral Home in Summerville, GA on August 5th, 2017 at 2:00PM with Bro. Randy Rush officiating. Private Interment Services will be held at a later date. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Trion Lodge #160 F&AM.

Coffman Funeral Home, Petitt Chapel is honored to be serving the family of Mr. Johnny Lee “Big John” Crider.
