Summerville man Thomas Dean told a local deputy that he believes his deceased girlfriend’s family may have stolen his 28-ton wood splitter as payback for a crime he claims he didn’t commit.

A local deputy responded around 6 PM Thursday to a report of a stolen wood splitter on Dean Rd. in Summerville. The deputy spoke with two neighbors of the victim who claim they witnessed a tan or gold Ford Ranger speeding down Dean Rd. pulling a wood splitter attached with a chain. One witness was apparently convinced it was her neighbor’s.

The victim listed several relatives of his late girlfriend as suspects. He claims that after his girlfriend passed away, members of her family accused him of stealing a trailer of theirs, which he denied doing. Dean claimed that the family has a vendetta against him, and that he believes that this may be their method of payback.
