Mr. Russell Lee “Red” Scoggins, age 93 of Summerville, passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Oakview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Mr. Scoggins was born in Lindale, Georgia on May 4, 1924, son of the late James Henry Scoggins and Beulah Gaines Scoggins. He was a graduate of Georgia Tech and was a veteran of WWII, having served in the United States Army.  He was a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, the Full Gospel Businessmen’s Fellowship and prior to retirement, was employed as a Supervisor in the packing department.  Among his other talents, he was an avid golfer and loved to play softball.  In addition to his parents, Mr. Scoggins was preceded in death by a sister, H.L. Adams and two brothers, Douglas and Fred Scoggins.

Mr. Scoggins is survived by his wife, Ann W. Scoggins; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Randy Howie; a grandson and his wife, Justice and Michelle Chamlee; two great grandchildren, Cooper Chamlee and Jackson Chamlee; a special niece, Freida Burton and a number of additional nieces and nephews.

Graveside and Interment services for Mr. Scoggins will be held Monday, December 4, 2017 at 2:30 P.M. in the West Hill Cemetery with Pastor Vernon Johnson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Justice Chamlee, David Dooley, Alan Smith, Butch Camp, Dana Laguinn and Steve Peppers.  Honorary Pallbearers will be Leo Lanier, Thurman Day, Bob Agnew, the Men’s SS Class and former employees of the Packing Dept. at Mt. Vernon Mills.

Mr. Scoggins will be in state at the Coffman Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday afternoon from 1:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M.
