In their regular monthly meeting on Monday evening, the Summerville City Council delayed a decision on creating a new policy for donations to various organizations and events.
Mayor Harry Harvey told the council that a policy needed to be developed for how and when the city donates to events in the city and county. The mayor said that he wants to instruct City Manager Tony Carroll to come up with guidelines for the council to use in helping to make decisions about donations.
This year the council has turned down donation requests from Santa in Uniform and Chattooga County Public Safety Day. The council also cut the funding for the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair in half.
The donation policy was on Monday night’s agenda, but the mayor recommended tabling the matter due to the city manager being away due to illness.
