Sheriff Mark Schrader told AM 1180 on Thursday afternoon that his office has been called to investigate a couple of suspicious person sightings in the Silver Hill area of Chattooga County.

The sheriff says that he is not sure if both of the incidents are related, but deputies have been called out twice to check out reports of a suspicious person that was seen walking in the Silver Hill area.  In one incident it is believed that a man walked off of Taylor’s Ridge and through a field and was picked up by a car with Cobb County tags.  The sheriff says that from what they have gathered, the man was hiking the Pinhoti Trail and came down off the mountain to catch a ride.

In another incident, a complainant on Jenkins Gap Road reported a suspicious person in their house.  In that incident the complainant said that they came home to find the man slumped over the chair.  The complainant called 911 and deputies responded to the scene.  The complainant remained outside until law enforcement arrived, but when deputies searched the house they could find no one. The complainant advised that they did not know how the man could have gotten out of the house without being detected.

Again, the sheriff says that he is not convinced that the two incidents are related, but if residents see anything suspicious in the area, they should call Chattooga 911.
