Chattooga County Tax Commissioner Joy Hampton says that she will be collecting 2018 property taxes “curbside” today.
Hampton told WZQZ News on Thursday that she will be available today to come out to a taxpayer’s vehicle and personally take their tax payment, should they need the assistance.
Last year on the Friday before taxes were due, Hampton provided the curbside service and says that it was popular with elderly and disabled tax payers who might have difficulty getting out and accessing the tax commissioner’s office. Due to that response, Hampton says that she is planning on offering the service today and again on the Friday before taxes are due, November 31, 2018.
Because the tax due date falls on Saturday, December 1st this year, taxpayers will have until Monday, December 3rd to pay taxes without penalty.
