As of 6 PM on Thursday, six people have died on Georgia Highways since the Thanksgiving travel period began at 6 PM Wednesday. One of those fatalities include a Resaca 16-year-old girl who died in Calhoun Wednesday nigh.
The GSP said that around 9 PM Wednesday, a 1987 Nissan STD pickup truck was traveling west on Boone Ford Road when the driver lost control, left the roadway, and struck several large trees with the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver, 18-year-old Calhoun man Gauge Cross, was injured and airlifted to Erlanger Medical Center. The passenger, 16-year old Molly Jones of Resaca, was ejected and fatally injured.
The investigation is on-going by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT), and charges are pending.
Three fatalities reported were in Athens and one was worked by the Gwinnett County Sheriffs Office. The Thanksgiving holiday travel period comes to an official close at 11:59 PM on Sunday.
