A Trion woman reported a case of debit card fraud to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department on Monday of this week.
The complainant told a responding deputy that between the month of June and the first of August, someone had charged $2,668.68 to her bank debit card without her knowledge or permission.
The woman told a responding deputy that she did not know who made the charges on her account, but believes that someone used the card on the internet where all they needed was the card number and security code to make online transactions.
The complainant told the deputy that she has always had the debit card in her possession and has never lost or misplaced it. She added that since she discovered the fraudulent activity, she has had the card cancelled.
The case is under investigation by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.
