It was good news once again as the new unemployment numbers were released by the Georgia Department of Labor on Thursday.

Unemployment continues to decrease across the state and across Northwest Georgia.  Chattooga County’s unemployment numbers for the month of May continued the downward trend – in fact Chattooga County now has one of the lowest unemployment figures in almost two decades.  According to the latest numbers, Chattooga County’s unemployment rate stands at 3.3%.

In the Northwest Georgia Region there are only two counties with unemployment rates of 4% or more.  Whitfield County’s unemployment rate is at 4.0% and Murray County is at 4.4%.

Other unemployment rates from the region:

Dade County – 3.1%

Walker County – 3.4.%

Floyd County – 3.6%

Catoosa County – 3.0 %

Gordon County – 3.4%

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said on Thursday, “Georgia’s employment numbers remain strong. Across the state, the unemployment rate either remained steady or dropped.”
