Yesterday, Chattooga County honored veterans for their service in two events. The first was held at Dowdy Park at the Veteran’s Memorial Park. The Veterans Committee added new memorials to several veterans, bringing the total number of memorials to 660. The event was marked with patriotic music and the American Legion Honor Guard’s presentation of the colors. In Trion, local dignitaries spoke at the Veterans Day ceremony held at the Trion Veterans Memorial. Today is Veterans Day and marks the 100th Anniversary of Armistice Day – the official end of World War I. Tomorrow, the holiday will be observed and banks, government offices and the post office will be closed.
