Labor Day 2023

Today is Labor Day in the United States, a Federal holiday that marks the last weekend of summer for many.  The holiday had its roots in the labor movement of the late 19th century and was meant to be a day to organize workers and recognize the advancement of labor rights.  In the 1880’s when the first Labor Day was celebrated, workers were being forced to work 12-14 hour days with no extra compensation and children were being forced to work in mines, mills and meat processing plants.  Because today is a Federal holiday, banks and post offices will be closed.  Also, most governmental offices will be closed.
