Chattooga Young Farmers September Meeting

The Chattooga Young Farmers have announced their September meeting that will be held on Thursday of this week.  Carla Howard with Helping Hands Ending Hunger will be the guest speaker.  There will be a hamburger and hotdog supper with donations for the meal going to Helping Hands Ending Hunger of Chattooga County.   If you plan to attend, you should RSVP to Lauren Jarrett no later than this Tuesday, September 5th.

Fall Hayrides At Cloudland Canyon State Park

Every Sunday during the month of October, the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park will be hosting FREE hayrides at the park.  Attendees can enjoy the hayrides from Noon until 5 PM.  Enjoy a tractor-pulled hayride through the park and fun family games and activities.  Remember, there is a $5 vehicle parking fee at Georgia State Parks.  Donations to the Friends of Cloudland Canyon State Park will be accepted.

“Sunday Dinner” At The Depot Next Month

Old Fashioned Day Sunday Dinner is coming to the historic Summerville Depot next month.  The City of Summerville will host the event with Sunday dinner served by Jim’s Restaurant from 11 AM until 2:30 PM.  The cost is $7.25 for a meat and 2 vegetables or $6.45 for a 3 vegetable plate.  Drinks will be $2 and dessert for $2.50.  There will be indoor and outdoor seating and the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Train will arrive at 1 PM.  Live Bluegrass and Gospel music will be provided by Low Down Revival.  The event is scheduled for Sunday, October 15th.

Home Depot Foundations Commits To Hurricane Idalia Disaster Relief

The Georgia-based Home Depot Foundation is committing up to $250,000 to support immediate disaster relief and long-term recovery efforts in communities impacted by Hurricane Idalia. This new disaster response grant takes the Foundation’s disaster commitment to more than $6 million this year.

Sandra Lynette Carnes DeBerry, Obit (M)

Mrs. Sandra Lynette Carnes DeBerry, age 74, of Summerville, GA, died Friday, September 1, 2023, at Atrium Health Floyd.

Mrs. DeBerry was born May 21, 1949, in Trion, GA, daughter of the late Joseph Lonzo and Barbara Eugenia Patterson Carnes. She had attended Fellowship Baptist Church and was retired from the Chattooga County School System.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Eugene DeBerry; sons, Joseph LeBron DeBerry and Harold DeBerry, Jr.; and brothers, Bobby Carnes and Calvin Carnes.

Survivors include her son, Lamar (Larissa) DeBerry; a sister, Charlotte Maxson; 5 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. DeBerry will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, September 4, 2023, from the Mason Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sanford DeBerry officiating. Interment will follow in Garrett Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Lamar DeBerry, Alex DeBerry, Levi Thomas, Christopher DeBerry, Tobey DeBerry, and Chuck Powell.

Mrs. DeBerry will be in State at Mason Funeral Home and the family will receive friends from 12 Noon until the hour of service on Monday.
