An accident this morning took the life of a Trion man. According to the Georgia State Patrol there were 2 vehicles involved: a 1997 red Jeep Cherokee  driven by Steve Preston White, age 56,  of 319 Williams Cemetery Road, Trion, GA. The 2nd vehicle was a 1998 maroon Ford Windstar, was driven by Marsha Lin Kessler, age 47, of Summerville. 

Mr. White was killed upon impact.  Ms. Kessler was traveling south on Hwy. 27 and Mr. White was traveling north on Highland Ave.  His vehicle struck the curb and vaulted in the air, landing on its side on Hwy. 27 and then struck the Kessler vehicle almost head-on.  His vehicle then turned over, landing on its top. 

Ms. Kessler and the 2 occupants traveling with her, a 20 year old female and a 4 year child, were transported to Floyd Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.  However, the state patrol did receive updated information that the 4 year child is being flown to the T. C. Thompson Children’s Hospital at Erlanger of Chattanooga.

Earlier this morning AM 1180 Reported: 

The Georgia State Patrol worked an accident on Highway 27 in Summerville near the intersection of Highland Avenue.  According to wittnesses on the scene the accident involved a van and a SUV.

The Georgia State Patrol declined to comment to AM 1180 on the extent of the injuries, however reports indicate that one person was seriously injured in the accident.  The State Patrol would not confirm if there was a fatality at this time as the investigation is still ongoing.

UPDATE – 10:12 AM

The Georgia State Patrol is confirming a fatality in the wreck that happened this morning around 8 am on Highway 27 near the intersection of Highland Avenue.  The accident involved a 1998 Ford Windstar van and a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The name is being witheld pending notification of family.
