A DeKalb County assistant district attorney and her husband were charged with alcohol related offenses Friday night after being arrested by Alabama State Troopers at a traffic roadblock.
DeKalb Assistant DA Julie Baker McCormick, 33, is charged with unlawful possession of a prohibited beverage. Her husband, Toby McCormick, 37, is charged with DUI.
According to Trooper Information Officer Chad Joiner, Julie McCormick was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her husband. Joiner said troopers stopped that vehicle just after 11 p.m. Friday, at a driver’s license checkpoint officers had set up on County Road 51.
The McCormicks were arrested at the roadblock and then taken to DeKalb County jail for processing. Records show both were released early Saturday morning each on $1,500 bond.
“It would be inappropriate for me to comment on charges at this time,” District Attorney Mike O’Dell said. “Like any other person, Mrs. McCormick will go through the system. I will step back and let the system run its course.
“I will be sitting down and talking to Mrs. McCormick at the conclusion of this case to determine if any discipline or sanctions take place. It is unfortunate she found herself in this situation. She is a hard worker and a great young lady and has always done a good job in this office. I would expect that to continue despite these circumstances
