Alabama Governor Bob Riley joined Fort Payne and DeKalb County officials Friday to announce an automotive parts supplier is building a plant on Airport Road that will initially employ 200 people. That number is expected to grow to 350 by July 2014.
A.P. Plasman Corp., based in Canada, chose Fort Payne for its first U.S. plant. Construction of the 170,000-square-feet manufacturing facility begins this year and production is expected to start in mid-2011. The company produces parts for the automotive industry.
The new plant will supply items such as front grills, trunk skins and moldings for various auto manufacturers, including Volkswagen, Hyndai, Nissan, BMW, Mercedes, Honda, General Motors and Toyota.
Officials with the Canadian Company said that they chose Ft. Payne because of the support and assistance provided by economic and governmental leaders, and the hospitality and “red carpet treatment” those leaders were shown in the city while scouting for possible plant locations.
