According to Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department Investigator and Public Information Officer Mark Hicks, a sex offender that had previously resided in Centre, and had absconded from the area, has been captured in Walker County, Georgia.

50 year old Marvin Steven Parker was located, and taken into custody by Investigator Bo Jolly.

Parker was wanted by the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department when it was discovered that he had left the area without notifying authorities of his intent to relocate.

Alabama law regarding sex offenders states that anyone convicted of the offense of a sexual crime will notify the sheriff’s office or the police department of their intention to move to or from any residence. This also includes any change of address within the same county.

Parker was extradited back to Cherokee County and charged with Failure to Notify Law Enforcement of his Moving, which is a Class C Felony.

His bond was set at $2500, and he currently remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center
