A Fort Payne woman convicted of the 1995 murder of her police officer husband and his girlfriend was denied parole.
The Alabama Board of Pardons and Parole, earlier this week, denied parole to Nell Rae Long, who is currently serving time on concurrent 30-year sentences for the murder of her then-husband Fort Payne Police Sgt. Sonny Long and his girlfriend, Martha Shankles. DeKalb Circuit Judge Randall Cole handed down the sentence.
The parole board said it would not reconsider parole for at least four years.
DeKalb County District Attorney Mike O’Dell, who prosecuted Long for the murders, wrote a letter to the parole board in July asking parole be denied.
