Alabama’s annual Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday begins this Friday and runs through midnight Sunday, waiving state and local sales taxes on back-to-school items. Cherokee and DeKalb Counties are waiving their local sales taxes in addition to the state’s 4% sales tax.

Tax-Free items this weekend will include clothing priced at $100 or less per item, school supplies and textbooks priced at $50 or less, other books priced at $30 or below, and also computers and computer equipment costing $750 or less.

Alabama Governor Bob Riley calls the Sales Tax Holiday a critical time for retailers, as it ranks behind only Christmas and Thanksgiving in shopping.
