Earlier this week AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio spoke with Animal Control Officer Aubrey "Smitty" Smith.  Smith said that his department has been very busy the past few weeks and the animal shelter is pushing capacity.

Smith said that residents can help out by adopting animals from the shelter, and if you have lost an animal be sure to check with the shelter to see if the animal has been picked up.  Last month there were 123 calls handled by animal control in Chattooga County.  Two officers covered 3,381 miles.  Fifty five animals were sent to rescue.

Also, residents should consider having their pets spayed or neutered to keep down the animal population in Chattooga County.
