While Secretary of State Karen Handle was calling publicly for her fellow Republican Glenn Richardson to resign after allegations of an aledged affair surfaced, Democratic politicians in Northwest Georgia chose to comment very little about the situation.

Representative Barbara Massey Reece, a Democrat from Menlo told reporters yesterday – “I think his caucus, the majority caucus, will probably take care of this……I don’t want to be critical in a situation that is so tragic.”  State Rep. Rick Crawford, a Democrat from Cedartown, said “the process has to work itself out.”

Richardson announced his resignation as the Speaker of the Georgia General Assembly yesterday and also plans to resign his seat in the legislature in January of 2010.  Richardson was the first Republican Speaker of the House in Georgia since Reconstruction.
