Armuchee head football coach John Mullinax has stepped down from his position for "personal reasons."

Mullinax resigned on Monday and announced his decision to his players during a team meeting.

Mullinax said he is dealing with several family matters, but made it clear that he was not resigning for any health-related issues pertaining to himself.

"I hate that I have to do it. I never thought this would be the way I leave here," Mullinax said during a phone interview with the RN-T on Monday night. "I’ve tried to work through all this but I have had a tougher time doing that over the last five or six days."

Preston Cash will serve as interim head coach and athletic director.

Mullinax has engineered an amazing turnaround at Armuchee during his tenure, and has helped the Indians become a force in Region 7-AA.
