An arrest has been made in the August 2009 burglary of the Hammondville Town Hall and Police Department.

21 year old Valley Head resident, Brandon Lanier Hawkins, has been charged with both Burglary 3rd Degree and Theft of Property 2nd Degree in relation to the incident.

Dekalb County Sheriff Jimmy Harris said the investigation was initiated last August following the break in and theft of a number of items including guns, ammunition & knives, in addition to other items such as drug paraphernalia & beer that had been confiscated in Hammondville Police cases.

That investigation reportedly led to a series of dead ends however, approximately two weeks ago, new information was obtained by Investigator Mitchell Dendy that led to Hawkins’ arrest.

Hawkins allegedly lived with his grandmother, approximately 200 yards away from the Town Hall and Police Station and he reportedly walked there early one morning, broke in, and stole the items.

Dendy and other officers went to the residence where the suspect had been living and they quickly located some of the stolen merchandise at the location.

Hawkins was already in jail on a Community Corrections violation from a previous drug charge.

He was served with the Burglary and Theft warrants and will not receive a bond on those charges.

He remains in jail pending a court appearance.
