A Chattooga County jailer was arrested for allegedly bringing drugs and tobacco into the jail and more charges are expected to be filed, according to Chattooga County Narcotics Unit Investigator Jeremy Reece.
Last week the news of the arrest of Gregory Allen Ferrell, age 47 of Summerville was released. Ferell was a jailer at the Chattooga County Jail. He allegedly brought packages into the jail that he said he believed contained only tobacco. But the packages also contained oxycodone, hydrocodone and marijuana.
Tony Edgeworth, 49, and Donald Collins, 54, both of Summerville, were allegedly throwing the packages into the back of Ferrell’s truck while Ferrell was inside the jail working.
Ferell claims that he didn’t know their were drugs in the packages, and that he was only doing the deed to make friends. Ferell said that he had a bad experience working at Hays State Prison when fellow-guards wouldn’t back him up and wanted to make friends inside the jail.
The investigation into the incident began in May by the Chattooga County Narcotics Unit.
