Walker County will commemorate the Battle of Chickamauga next month with a three-day celebration that is expected to draw thousands of re-enactors and spectators. The Civil War battle took place Sept. 18-20, 1863, and was one of the bloodiest battles in American history. Walker County’s 145th anniversary celebration of the battle will take place at Davis Crossroads in Chickamauga at the Andrews Farm in McLemore Cove (near the Dow Reichhold plant). An estimated 3,000 to 4,000 re-enactors are expected to attend the event.
