The 145th Battle of Chickamauga anniversary celebration wrapped up Sunday as visitors were treated to the Battle of Snodgrass Hill, the last of the weekend’s five military re-enactments.

The 90-minute re-creation was relived over a sprawling expanse of battlefield, with 4,000 to 5,000 re-enactors of all ages participating and one spirited corps arriving by train to hundreds of enthusiastic onlookers.

In September of 1863, Union casualties totaled 16,200 and Confederate losses around 18,000 in the costly two-day fight which was the last Southern Victory of the War Between the States.
