Berry College’s athletic teams may soon become a part of the NCAA Division three program.
If approved for membership, Berry would align itself with either the Great South Conference, or perhaps more likely, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
The college will make formal application to the NCAA in May and should get an answer later in the summer.
Athletic Director Todd Brooks says Berry is adding swimming and diving net year and at present, only 32 NAIA schools compete in the sport.
Berry is also adding lacrosse in 2010-2011 and lacrosse is not even recognized by the NAIA.
NCAA Division Three puts a premium on the entire experience of a student athlete which fits perfectly with the mission of Berry.
