The Blood Assurance Foundation is currently accepting applications for the 2011 Crystal Green Memorial Scholarship. The program offers a total of twelve scholarships in the amount of $1,500 each.

Scholarship applicants will be judged on a written application, high school transcript, school and community service, letters of recommendation, and a marketing plan for a blood drive. The completed applications must be postmarked or submitted online by March 31st.

Although blood donation is not a requirement, students must attend a Project Lifeline school.

Project Lifeline is a series of blood drives held at high schools throughout the region. The student’s school must host at least one blood drive with Blood Assurance during the school year.

The scholarship was established in memory of Crystal Green, who graduated from Dade County High School. She was a student at Georgia Southern University before suffering a setback with aplastic anemia. After hundreds of hours of platelet transfusions and a bone marrow transplant, Crystal lost her long battle in 1998, shortly after turning 21.

In her honor, Blood Assurance established a scholarship fund in 1999.
