More than 300 people will be unemployed this August when Bluebird closes it’s doors in LaFayette – many of those workers live in Chattooga County. The employees of the school bus manufacturer received the news on Thursday.
AM 1180 talked with Bluebird workers on Thursday evening who said that there was no advanced warning that they might be loosing their jobs. Company offiicials told the employees that some jobs would be available at the manufacturer’s plant in Fort Valley, Georgia.
Chattooga County Commissioner Jason Winters told AM 1180 that this was just more bad news, on top of the announcement on Wednsday that Jarrett Trucking in Summerville was shutting down with around 30 jobs being lost. Winters said that he wasn’t sure how many of Bluebird’s employees were from Chattooga County, but knew that there were quite a few.
Officials from the Georgia Department of Labor in LaFayette are gearing up to assist workers in Chattooga and Walker Counties that have lost their jobs with Jarrett Trucking and Bluebird.
