WEIS Radio in Cherokee County is reporting that the body of a missing Wellborn Elementary School teacher was found in Cherokee County just after midnight last night.

Police discovered the body of 29 year old Jacksonville resident Kevin Thompson along the side of U.S. 278 in Cherokee County.

Jacksonville Asst. Police Chief Bill Wineman said Investigators identified Thompson`s death as a homicide – Cherokee County deputies found the body, which had injuries that indicate it was a homicide.

Two suspects are in custody and Jacksonville police hope to charge each with capital murder for their alleged involvement in Thompson`s death.

No information on either suspect is being released at this time – other than the fact that one of the men is currently being held in the Anniston Jail and was a childhood friend of Thompson’s.

Thompson`s mother first reported him missing to Jacksonville police Thursday morning, when Wellborn Elementary officials notified Anniston police that the third-grade teacher had not showed up for work. Neighbors of Thompson`s Jackson Trace apartment said they were the last to see him – in the apartment complex parking lot around 10:45 p.m. Wednesday.

Multiple law-enforcement agencies assisted in the search for Thompson and for information about what happened to him, including the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Cherokee County District Attorneys Office, Anniston police, the Calhoun-Cleburne Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and Atlanta authorities.
