Chattooga County Coronor Earle Rainwater told reporters over the weekend that the body of a black male found on Friday evening in the Chattooga River near Lyerly will likely be identified today by the GBI Crimelab.

Sheriff’s investigators fished the body that was discovered around 7:45 PM on Friday from the Chattooga River.  The badly decomposed body was sent to the crimelab for identification.  At first Sheriff’s investigators thought the body might be that of a missing Summerville woman, but the body is now known to be that of a black male.

AM 1180 will have the latest information as it becomes available.  Sheriff John Everett said that his department is treating the incident as a homicide.
