Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says that a body was recovered in a wooded area near Wal-Mart in Trion.
Sheriff Schrader told WZQZ News on Friday that he and his deputies recovered the body on Friday. The sheriff said that the body was found on the back side of one of the large fields that are used for agricultural row crops. Due to the recent rain, the sheriff’s department had to use a side-by-side ATV to retrieve the body.
The sheriff said that the body was badly decomposed and that he was not sure how long the body had been there. The body will be sent to the state crime lab.
The sheriff says foul play is not suspected and the death may have been self-inflicted.
WZQZ does not normally report on self-inflicted deaths unless there are extenuating circumstances. The sheriff said people were concerned when they saw the body being transported on the ATV on Friday.
