Sheriff John Everett told AM 1180 on Thursday afternoon that the GBI crimelab in Atlanta has apositive ID on the body that was found in the Chattooga River on March 12.
The Sheriff said the body is that of Paty Spivey, a black male who had been missing from Floyd County since January. Sheriff Everett said that Floyd County Police would be handling the investigation and Chattooga County would assist and follow up with the investigation.
Everett said that Spivey had spent 20 years in prison for rape. The Sheriff said that law enforcement would be interviewing victims of Spivey’s crimes as part of the process in the investigation.
