The trial of Michael Bright is scheduled to be held in the next session of Chattooga County’s Superior Court.  Bright is on trial for the October 9, 2007 shooting death of Trion resident Richard Shawn Harris of a Halls Valley Road address.   According to reports at the time, Harris was shot in the chest around 11 PM on the night of October 9th and was transported to Floyd Medical Center by Chattooga County EMS where he was pronounced dead.  Bright’s lawyer is Summerville Attorney Don Thompson.  Thompson told the media at the time of the shooting, “I think it is clearly a case of self-defense and I think the facts will bear that out.   I’m 100 percent behind my client. He is not guilty. We expect to try it to a jury.  I think the facts will support that.” Bright has been charged with two counts of Felony Murder and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the incident.  District Attorney Herbert “Buzz” Franklin is set to prosecute the case.
