U.S. Congressman Mike Rogers of Alabama sends congratulations to the members of the Broomtown Fire Department, for receiving a grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security in the amount of $55,939. The funds will be used to help the department in their firefighting operations by allowing them to purchase new safety equipment. Rogers called Cherokee Countys first responders the first line of defense, saying that he hoped the grant will ultimately help to increase the safety for all local citizens. Rogers said that the grant would be awarded under the 2008 Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program, a Federal program which supports first responders across the state and the nation.
