As of midnight last night the burn ban that has been effect for 54 counties in Georgia, including Chattooga County, was lifted.
Residents that wish to burn yard debris, or agricultural producers that wish for a burn permit must call the Georgia Forestry Commission in order to obtain a permit to burn.
The burn ban was put into effect because of air quality issues in North Georgia according to state officials.
In order to obtain more informaiton you can call 1-877-OK2BURN. To get a burn permit you should call the Georgia Forestry Commission in Chattooga County at 706-857-0800. There is also an online burn permit option by going to http://www.gfc.state.ga.us
